Death, Microorganisms within Us, and Consciousness

According to this article: “The human body contains trillions of microorganisms — outnumbering human cells by 10 to 1.” These creatures are consciously with us, and when we die, they don’t immediately die.

  1. Are these creatures not just in us, but part of us as individuals, in any sense?
  2. Do they have any level of consciousness separately, collectively amongst themselves, or in connection with us? They impact when our neurons fire. Would us and our death affect their consciousness, if they have it?

Also, the material that makes up us will likely end up becoming part of some other living thing(s), which will potentially be conscious. Is there ever any continuity in this consciousness?
